Animals

Bell’s Hingeback Tortoise

With the capacity to grow up to 22cm in length, Bell’s Hingeback Tortoise has a light-brown shell and its name derives from the 90 degree hinge on the back of its shell. Discover fascinating facts about these extraordinary creatures!  

Sumatran Tiger

Fierce, majestic and beautiful creatures, the Sumatran Tiger is an extremely endangered species, and there are an estimated 400 left in the wild. Known for their white beards, there is nothing quite like seeing a sumatran tiger up close and personal.  

Southern White Rhino

Extraordinary animals who are incredibly beautiful up close and personal, the Southern White Rhino is a must-see at the Perth Zoo. Known for their furious charge, Southern White Rhinos are in fact very tranquil, placid creatures who are herbivores.

African Lion

Experience the raw of the kings of the animal kingdom’s king, the African Lion. Watch a lion shake his mane and the lioness protect her young in the flesh!

Asian Elephant - Bull

Known for their playful nature, watch elephants interact with one another and spray water from their trunks at Perth Zoo. As Asian Elephants, this breed are smaller than African Elephants and have smaller, darker ears.

Aisan Small-Clawed Otter

Friendly, social creatures, small-clawed otters swim and splash around together in pairs! As deeply endangered animals, small-clawed otters face a myriad of threats when in the wild. Learn all about them at Perth Zoo and how you can support them!

Opening Hours

The Perth Zoo opens every day  from 9am to 5pm including Christmas Day, Good Friday, Australia Day and New Year’s Day.

How To Get There

The Perth Zoo address is:20 Labouchere Road, South Perth WA 6151. You can get there by:

  • Bus: You can take bus routes 30 & 31 which run between Wellington Street and Elizabeth Quay Bus Station and Perth Zoo’s entrance. For the fastest possible journey between the bus port and the zoo, it is recommended that you take the Elizabeth Quay.  
  • Train: the closest train station is Elizabeth Quay Train Station and then transfer to Elizabeth Quay BusPort. 
  • Ferry: you can take a ferry to get across the river which depart from Barrack Street Jetty and every 30 minutes and every 15 minutes. You can reach Perth Zoo from Mends Street Jetty as it is only 500m away.
  • Taxi: you can easily travel to Perth Zoo by taxi.

Useful Information

Access

Perth Zoo is an access friendly zoo which accepts the national companion card and there is no-cost admission. The zoo also accepts other companion cards, please see the website for more details.  

Wheelchair hire is also available for a $10 returnable deposit.  

Lockers

There are lockers available at Perth Zoo for $6 per use and you can store most of your belongings as they are quite large.

Take a visit to Perth Zoo’s information Hub where you can discover an array of exhibitions, presentations and animals.  

Toilets

There are eight toilets in Perth Zoo including accessible toilets.
