Lion Gorge

From beautiful snow leopards to roaring lions, Lion Gorge’s offers some of the world’s most ferocious and magnificent big cats! Embark on an exciting adventure through the spectacular, green plains and learn about all the threats they face….  

Trail of Elephants

The award-winning Trail of Elephants is a green, enchanting garden featuring exquisitely beautiful Asian Elephants who roam around their natural habitat. Accompanied by these incredible beasts, is the Asian Small-clawed otter, spectacular Sumatran Tiger, fluttering Butterfly House and cheeky Orang-utan. 

Main Trail

Featuring an exciting assortment of animals, including Malayn Tapirs, Hamadryas Baboons and Platypus, the Main Trail, as the title suggests, is not to be missed for any animal lovers! At the end of the trail, you can enjoy the Carousel Park and interactive experiences for kids!

Growing Wild

Scurry around with adorable meerkats, giant tortoises, bush turkeys, reptiles which are located in an incredible interactive play area. A perfect trail for the little ones, Growing Wild immerses children into a thrilling world of animals and play!

Wild Sea

Plunge yourself deep into the water of the wonderful marine world of sea creatures, where you can meet playful penguins and beautiful fur seals! With idyllic sand dunes and a pier leading out to the sea, the Wild Sea feels just like VIctoria’s coastline.

Gorilla Rainforest

Venture into the jungle where majestic gorillas swing from the trees and mischievous lemurs scamper around. Learn about Melbourne Zoo’s unusual Pygmy Hippopotamus and many other animals along the way! 

Australian Bush

Featuring Australia’s most iconic species, the Australian Bush is home to Southern Koalas, Tasmanian Devils, wombats, kangaroos and parrots. Boasting an array of colourful flowering plants, this trail is incredibly scenic!

How to get there

Melbourne Zoo is located at Elliot Avenue, Parkville VIC 3052, Australia

• Tram: route 58 runs between WestCoburg and Toorak via William Street every day, the tram stops directly outside Melbourne Zoo at Stop 26. 
• Train: there is a train which runs from Flinders Street Station on Upfield line everyday and stops at Royal Park Station, which is just opposite the zoo. 
• Bus: bus route 505 goes from Moonee Ponds to Melbourne University and stops outside Melbourne Zoo.  
• Car: Melbourne Zoo is located 20 minutes north of the city and is only 20 minutes from Melbourne airport. The zoo has a car park which is $2 for a 5 hour ticket. Alternatively, you can travel by shuttle bus from the city.

Eating out

There are several places to eat out at Melbourne Zoo; there are both kiosks to grab something quickly or restaurants where you can enjoy a sitdown meal.  

Pavilion hire and picnic facilities

You can also hire out the pavilion area and lawns at Melbourne Zoo. Just call 1300 966 784 to pre-arrange this.  

Accessibility

If you are visiting Melbourne Zoo as an access customer, then there is free entry available for carers accompanying a person with a disability who is a holder of a Child Disability Allowance Health Care Card, a Disability Companion Pension Card or a Companion Card.

There is also accessible parking available; you can use six access parking bays which are located close to the main entrance of the zoo.  

When visiting the zoo, there is an easy-to-follow path system.  

Hiring Wheelchairs and Strollers

There are Baby Jogger strollers available for hire.  

Single Strollers:  

• $17 for Zoo members 
• $20 for non-members 

Double strollers

• $29.75 for Zoo members
• $35 for non-members 

You can also hire wheelchairs; please book them in advance.
