Located in the Northern Territory, the renowned Alice Springs Desert Park is home to an array of unique and stunning animals, such as kangaroos and dingos, the famous outback and the Northern Territory of Australia!

Experience spectacular landscapes, discover incredible animals and listen to ancient cultural stories about aboriginal people and history through displays, daily guided tours and presentations!  

Inside the Park

There are a variety of rich and beautiful landscapes inside in the park:  

Desert Rivers

As extremely nutrient rich areas, rivers run through the terrain at certain times of year and an incredible variety of animals can be discovered, including parrots, cockatoos, honeyeaters, kingfishers and owls.

Woodland

Beautiful woodland surrounds the Alice Springs and is an extremely rich and diverse source of timber and artefacts for Aboriginal people. Dominating the landscapes are sensational loodwoods, ironwoods, beefwoods and corkwoods.

Sand Country

As the name suggests, Sand Country is an orange, sandy expansive landscape which spills into the distance with varied vegetation such as incredible desert oaks and spinifex which dominate the habitat.

Nocturnal House

Discover Australia’s nocturnal creatures including reptiles, invertebrates and other endangered creatures come out from the shadows!

Dingo Territory

Learn all about these playful and curious dingos in their natural habitat! Unbelievably cute and friendly creatures, the Dingo Territory is not to be missed by the animal lovers!

Kangaroos

Located seven kilometres from the centre of Alice Springs, the Alice Springs Desert Park address is:

  • Driving : you can find the entrance of Desert Park 6km from the town centre. Drive west and then you will find the free vehicle and coach parking.  
  • Walking and Cycling : you can walk or cycle directly from the town centre on Larapinta Drive and then join the Desert Park cycling path.

Food and Drink

If you fancy a bite to eat at Alice Springs Desert Park, Latitude 23 Food & Art Co has an impressive selection of food and drink which has a brand-new menu with locally sourced ingredients. There are also snack options from the Coolamen Cafe.


Access 

The park aims to be fully accessible for wheelchair users and there are easy to follow pathway systems. There are also free entry for carers who hold a disability allowance health care card, a disability pension card or a companion card. You can hire electric shop riders from the entry station!

Open 7.30am to 6pm every day. Last entry 4.30pm.
