Trail of Elephants

The award-winning Trail of Elephants is a green, enchanting garden featuring exquisitely beautiful Asian Elephants who roam around their natural habitat. Main Trail

How to get there

Melbourne Zoo is located at Elliot Avenue, Parkville VIC 3052, Australia

  • Tram: route 58 runs between WestCoburg and Toorak via William Street every day, the tram stops directly outside Melbourne Zoo at Stop 26. 
  • Train: there is a train which runs from Flinders Street Station on Upfield line everyday and stops at Royal Park Station, which is just opposite the zoo. 
  • Bus: bus route 505 goes from Moonee Ponds to Melbourne University and stops outside Melbourne Zoo.  
  • Car: Melbourne Zoo is located 20 minutes north of the city and is only 20 minutes from Melbourne airport. The zoo has a car park which is $2 for a 5 hour ticket. Alternatively, you can travel by shuttle bus from the city.

There are several places to eat out at Melbourne Zoo; there are both kiosks to grab something quickly or restaurants where you can enjoy a sitdown meal.  

Pavilion hire and picnic facilities

You can also hire out the pavilion area and lawns at Melbourne Zoo. Just call 1300 966 784 to pre-arrange this.  

Accessibility

If you are visiting Melbourne Zoo as an access customer, then there is free entry available for carers accompanying a person with a disability who is a holder of a Child Disability Allowance Health Care Card, a Disability Companion Pension Card or a Companion Card.

There is also accessible parking available; you can use six access parking bays which are located close to the main entrance of the zoo.  

When visiting the zoo, there is an easy-to-follow path system.

There are Baby Jogger strollers available for hire.

Good This zoo is always worth visiting. It is located in the centre of Melbourne but you wouldnt believe it. You can see some great animals.
