Train Journeys

The Classic Rattler Run

The most famous of the journeys offered, the Classic Rattler Run takes passengers on an exciting adventure on a C17 steam train from Gympie Station through the scenic Mary Valley and remarkable small town of Dagun, before arriving at the Amamoor Heritage Station. During the journey, you can have a chat with the drivers and volunteers, so you learn it all about the train history.

Silver Bullet High Tea

Are you a fan of tea? The latest experience in the Mary Valley Rattler’s fleet of heritage trains is the Silver Bullet railmotor, which will take you on a ride through a spectacular landscape as you enjoy a gourmet high tea.

Footplate Friends Experience

The perfect experience for train enthusiasts, it allows you to live a day as one of Mary Valley Rattler drivers. You will join the train crew for their morning briefing before the tour starts. After that, you can sit back and enjoy the views accompanied by morning tea and lunch with the crew, as well as a return trip with the steam train footplate cab ride.

How to get there

Mary Valley Rattler is located at the historic Gympie Station. The best option is to get there by car:

• Directions: Once you arrive in Gympie, simply follow the brown tourist signs – they’ll lead you straight to us! Ample parking (including accessible carparks) is available at the front of the station and on the street, ensuring a hassle-free start to your adventure.
• Groups: There is an option to get there using a coach, which can easily access the guest drop-off zone with designated parking. The group will be receibed and taken care of from the moment you arrive.

Accessibility

Gympie Historic Station, Amamoor Station and the current Mary Valley Rattler rail experiences are wheelchair accessible. However, accessible rail experiences are limited. so its better if you contact on (07) 5482 2750 to ensure availability.

You are welcome to bring your own food on board of all the trains. However, there is also the option to buy your food at the historic Gympie Station, as well as at the Rusty Rails Cafe
