Mastodon is an American heavy metal band formed in 2000 by Troy Sanders (bass/vocals), Brent Hinds (lead guitar/vocals), Bill Kelliher (rhythm guitar/backing vocals) and Brann Dailor (drums/vocals).
The band has been praised for their innovative sound within the heavy metal genre, mixing progressive metal, sludge, and hard rock. Their early work such as their albums Remission (2002) and Leviathan(2004) established their reputation, garnering a devoted following.
The band's chemistry has maintained them continuously united through their career, realising music consistently. Other later works like Crack the Skye (2009) and Emperor of Sand (2017) showcase this, as their blend of experimental sounds with emotional depth contrast with their heavy rock sound.
Mastodon is also a multiple-time Grammy nominee and winner, with the BEst Metal performance in 2018. Their live performances are cherished for their technical and passionate mastery, remaining as one of the most influential modern metal bands.
